Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (or additional all-purpose flour)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (non-fat preferred)
- 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
Toppings (Optional)
- Everything bagel seasoning
- Cinnamon sugar
- Rosemary Parmesan
- Shredded cheese (such as cheddar or Asiago)
Instructions
- Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, and kosher salt until evenly combined.
- Incorporate Yogurt: Create a hole in the center of the dry ingredients and add the Greek yogurt. Use a spoon or small rubber spatula to stir until the mixture forms a shaggy dough.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 1 to 2 minutes until it becomes smooth. If sticky, lightly dust your hands and the counter with flour to make handling easier.
- Shape Bagels: Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then form into a rope about 8 to 9 inches long and 3/4-inch thick. Join the ends of the rope to create a bagel shape, pressing lightly to seal. Repeat for all pieces.
- Apply Toppings: Place the shaped bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with the egg wash to help toppings adhere, then sprinkle with your choice of toppings such as everything bagel seasoning, cinnamon sugar, rosemary Parmesan, or shredded cheese.
- Air Fry the Bagels: Arrange the bagels in a single layer in the air fryer basket without touching. You may need to cook in batches. For easy handling, remove the basket insert, place two bagels on it, and carefully lower it into the fryer (only valid for the first batch to avoid burns). Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown on top and sides.
- Cool and Serve: Once cooked, transfer the bagels to a wire rack and let them cool slightly. Enjoy them warm for the best experience.
Notes
- You can substitute whole wheat flour with all-purpose flour if preferred.
- Be careful when removing the air fryer basket insert after cooking as it gets very hot.
- Cooking times may vary slightly depending on your air fryer model.
- Feel free to customize the toppings to suit your taste preferences.
- These bagels are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
