Berry Puff Twists Recipe

  • Author: Gabriel
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 8 twists 1x

Description

Delightful Berry Puff Twists featuring flaky puff pastry filled with mixed berry preserves, brushed with a vanilla butter glaze, twisted into spirals, and baked to a golden, crispy perfection. A quick and elegant pastry treat perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed

Filling and Topping

  • 1/2 cup mixed berry preserves
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Prep Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet gently to smooth out any creases and prepare it for filling.
  2. Add Filling: Spread the mixed berry preserves evenly over the pastry, making sure to leave a 1-inch border around all edges so the preserves don’t leak out during baking. Then mix the melted butter with vanilla extract and brush this mixture over the berry layer for added flavor and moisture.
  3. Cut and Twist: Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the pastry into 8 equal strips. Take each strip and twist it several times to form spiral shapes. Place each twisted strip on the prepared baking sheet, spaced slightly apart to allow puffing in the oven.
  4. Brush and Sugar: Brush each twisted strip generously with the beaten egg wash to give them a rich golden color as they bake. Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the tops to create a sweet, caramelized coating.
  5. Bake: Bake the twists in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until they are puffed up, golden brown, and crispy. The sugar topping should be caramelized and slightly crunchy. Once baked, allow the twists to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before serving to set.

Notes

  • Ensure puff pastry is fully thawed before rolling to prevent cracking.
  • Use a sharp knife for clean cuts to help the twists hold their shape.
  • Try different berry preserves or jams for variety in flavor.
  • Serve warm for the best flaky texture and taste.
  • Can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
