Description

This Cheddar Bay Green Bean Casserole is a delicious twist on the traditional green bean casserole, combining tender green beans and creamy cheddar soup with a flavorful Cheddar Bay Biscuit topping. The casserole is baked until bubbly and golden brown, then brushed with a buttery, seasoned glaze for a rich finish—perfect for holiday dinners or comforting family meals.

Ingredients

Scale

Green Bean Mixture

  • 26 oz frozen cut green beans, thawed
  • 10.5 oz condensed cheddar soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup dehydrated minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/3 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Biscuit Topping

  • 1 box Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk (for biscuit batter)
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • Included seasoning packet from biscuit mix

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Prepare Green Bean Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed green beans, condensed cheddar soup, 1/2 cup milk, dehydrated minced onion, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly to blend the flavors.
  3. Add Cheeses: Add 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese and 1/3 cup shredded parmesan cheese to the green bean mixture and stir well again to evenly distribute the cheeses.
  4. Prepare Baking Dish: Spray a 9 x 13 inch baking dish generously with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  5. Assemble Base Layer: Pour the green bean and cheese mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  6. Prepare Biscuit Batter: In a separate mixing bowl, pour the biscuit mix and set aside the included seasoning packet. Add 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese and 2 cups milk to the biscuit mix. Stir until the batter is smooth with no large lumps remaining.
  7. Add Biscuit Topping: Pour the biscuit batter evenly over the green bean mixture in the baking dish, covering it completely.
  8. Bake Casserole: Place the assembled casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 50 to 55 minutes until the biscuit topping is nicely browned and cooked through.
  9. Prepare Butter Glaze: While the casserole is baking, combine the melted butter and the Cheddar Bay seasoning packet in a small bowl.
  10. Glaze the Casserole: After baking, remove the casserole from the oven and brush the seasoned butter mixture evenly over the baked biscuit topping.
  11. Rest Before Serving: Allow the casserole to rest for about 5 minutes to let the butter soak in and the casserole to set slightly.
  12. Serve and Enjoy: Slice into portions and serve warm for a comforting, cheesy side dish.

Notes

  • Thaw frozen green beans completely before mixing for best texture.
  • Adjust the salt and pepper according to your taste preference.
  • You can substitute fresh green beans if preferred; blanch beforehand for tenderness.
  • Ensure the biscuit topping batter covers the green beans evenly to bake properly.
  • Allowing the casserole to rest after baking helps the flavors meld and the topping firm up slightly.
  • This casserole pairs wonderfully with roasted meats or can stand alone as a hearty vegetarian dish.
