Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 2 (8 oz) cans Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls
Sauce
- 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of chicken soup, undiluted
- 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese (room temperature)
- 4 tbsp butter (room temperature)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 large cooked chicken breasts, finely chopped (about 2 cups)
- 1/2 cup finely grated cheddar cheese (for filling)
- 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 2–4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
Topping
- 1–2 cup grated cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish thoroughly with butter to prevent sticking and add flavor.
- Make the Sauce: In a small pot over medium heat, combine the undiluted cream of chicken soup, 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese, and 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream. Stir continuously until the cheese is fully melted and the mixture is smooth. Once ready, turn off the stove and set aside.
- Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, blend together the room temperature cream cheese, butter, and garlic powder using a fork until smooth and creamy. Add the finely chopped cooked chicken breasts, chopped onion, 1/2 cup finely grated cheddar cheese, seasoning salt, ground black pepper, and 2 to 4 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
- Assemble Crescent Rolls: Unroll the crescent rolls carefully. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the chicken filling onto the larger end of each crescent triangle. Roll them up starting from the larger end, sealing the filling inside.
- Arrange and Add Sauce: Spread a layer of the chicken sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Place the rolled crescent rolls seam side down in a single layer over the sauce. Then pour the remaining sauce evenly over the top of the rolls.
- Add Cheese Topping and Bake: Sprinkle 1 to 2 cups of grated cheddar cheese generously over the sauced crescent rolls. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
Notes
- Use fully cooked chicken breasts for the filling; shredded rotisserie chicken works well too.
- For a creamier filling, adjust the amount of heavy whipping cream as needed to reach desired consistency.
- Make sure to seal the crescent rolls well to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
- Feel free to substitute cheddar cheese with your favorite cheese such as mozzarella or Monterey Jack for a different flavor.
- This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking; increase baking time slightly if baking from cold.
