Ingredients
Scale
For the Sauce
- 2 (8 oz) cans Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls
- 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of chicken soup, undiluted
- 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
For the Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese (room temperature)
- 4 tbsp butter (room temperature)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 large cooked chicken breasts, finely chopped (about 2 cups)
- 1/2 cup finely grated cheddar cheese (for filling)
- 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 2–4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
For the Topping
- 1–2 cup grated cheddar cheese (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking and prepare for assembly.
- Make the Cream Sauce: In a small pot over medium heat, combine the cream of chicken soup, 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese, and 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream. Stir frequently until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Turn off the stove once done.
- Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the room temperature cream cheese, butter, and garlic powder. Using a fork, blend these ingredients until smooth and creamy. Add the finely chopped cooked chicken breasts, finely chopped onion, 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese, seasoning salt, black pepper, and 2 to 4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream. Mix everything thoroughly to combine well.
- Assemble the Rolls: Unroll the crescent rolls and place 1 tablespoon of the chicken filling on the larger end of each crescent triangle. Carefully roll up each one starting from the larger end to encase the filling inside.
- Layer and Top: Spread a portion of the cream chicken sauce over the bottom of the greased baking dish. Arrange the rolled-up crescent rolls evenly on top of the sauce. Pour the remaining cream of chicken sauce over the rolls, ensuring they are well covered. Finally, sprinkle 1 to 2 cups of grated cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese topping is bubbly and melted.
- Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your warm, cheesy chicken crescent roll casserole!
