Description

This Chicken Crescent Roll Casserole is a creamy, cheesy, and comforting baked dish featuring tender chicken-filled crescent rolls smothered in a rich cream of chicken sauce and cheddar cheese topping. Perfect for an easy weeknight dinner or a hearty family meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sauce

  • 2 (8 oz) cans Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls
  • 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of chicken soup, undiluted
  • 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

For the Filling

  • 4 oz cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 4 tbsp butter (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 large cooked chicken breasts, finely chopped (about 2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup finely grated cheddar cheese (for filling)
  • 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 24 tablespoons heavy whipping cream

For the Topping

  • 12 cup grated cheddar cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking and prepare for assembly.
  2. Make the Cream Sauce: In a small pot over medium heat, combine the cream of chicken soup, 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese, and 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream. Stir frequently until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Turn off the stove once done.
  3. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the room temperature cream cheese, butter, and garlic powder. Using a fork, blend these ingredients until smooth and creamy. Add the finely chopped cooked chicken breasts, finely chopped onion, 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese, seasoning salt, black pepper, and 2 to 4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream. Mix everything thoroughly to combine well.
  4. Assemble the Rolls: Unroll the crescent rolls and place 1 tablespoon of the chicken filling on the larger end of each crescent triangle. Carefully roll up each one starting from the larger end to encase the filling inside.
  5. Layer and Top: Spread a portion of the cream chicken sauce over the bottom of the greased baking dish. Arrange the rolled-up crescent rolls evenly on top of the sauce. Pour the remaining cream of chicken sauce over the rolls, ensuring they are well covered. Finally, sprinkle 1 to 2 cups of grated cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese topping is bubbly and melted.
  7. Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your warm, cheesy chicken crescent roll casserole!

Notes

  • You can use any cooked chicken, such as rotisserie or leftover chicken, finely chopped.
  • If you prefer, substitute cream of mushroom soup instead of cream of chicken for a different flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of heavy cream in the filling for desired creaminess.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the filling.
  • This dish can be refrigerated for up to 2 days before baking. Adjust cooking time accordingly if baking cold.
