Chocolate Toffee Bars Recipe

  • Author: Gabriel
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 24 bars 1x

Description

Deliciously rich and buttery chocolate toffee bars featuring a soft brown sugar base topped with melted milk chocolate chips and crunchy toffee bits. Perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth with a delightful combination of chewy, melty, and crunchy textures.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1 12 oz bag milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup toffee bits

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350º F to get it ready for baking the bars.
  2. Mix Butter, Sugar, and Egg Yolk: Beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and egg yolk just until combined. Avoid over-beating like with typical cookies; you want the ingredients incorporated but not fluffy.
  3. Add Flour and Vanilla: Stir in the all-purpose flour and vanilla extract, mixing just until the batter comes together without overmixing.
  4. Press Batter into Pan: Grease a half sheet pan or a 13×9 inch baking dish. Evenly press the batter into the pan to form a smooth layer.
  5. Bake the Base: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges turn golden and the base is set.
  6. Add Chocolate Chips: Remove the baked base from the oven, and immediately sprinkle the milk chocolate chips evenly over the warm bars.
  7. Melt and Spread Chocolate: Let the chocolate chips sit for 5-7 minutes to soften and melt, or optionally return the pan to the oven for 2-3 minutes until the chocolate appears shiny. Then gently spread the melted chocolate into an even layer using a spatula.
  8. Sprinkle Toffee Bits: Sprinkle the toffee bits evenly over the melted chocolate while it is still warm.
  9. Set and Slice: Allow the chocolate to fully set before slicing into bars and serving.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is softened at room temperature for easy mixing.
  • Do not overbeat the batter to maintain a tender texture.
  • You can use a half sheet pan or 13×9 inch pan interchangeably.
  • For quicker chocolate melting, briefly return to oven instead of waiting.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
