Description

These Crispy Air Fryer Apple Fries are a deliciously sweet and crunchy treat made by coating apple slices with a cinnamon-sugar breadcrumb mixture and air frying them to golden perfection. Perfect as a healthy snack or a fun dessert, they come with optional dipping sauces like caramel or vanilla yogurt for extra indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Fries

  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite variety)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Cooking spray

Dipping Sauce (Optional)

  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (optional for a lighter option)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Slice the apples into 1/2 inch thick wedges, keeping the skin on or peeling as you prefer. Remove the core and seeds. Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl and set aside.
  2. Set Up the Breading Station: Arrange three shallow bowls: put the flour in the first, beaten eggs in the second, and mix panko breadcrumbs with half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture in the third.
  3. Coat the Apple Slices: Dredge each apple slice in flour, shake off excess, dip into the beaten eggs ensuring full coverage, then coat thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat for all slices.
  4. Preheat and Arrange: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3 minutes. Arrange the breaded apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Lightly spray the tops with cooking spray.
  5. Air Fry Until Crispy: Air fry at 375°F for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping slices halfway through. Watch closely after 8 minutes for golden-brown color and a crunchy exterior.
  6. Sprinkle and Serve: After air frying, immediately sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture over the hot fries to melt slightly. Serve immediately with your choice of caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith apples for a tart balance or Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala for sweeter fries.
  • Panko breadcrumbs give extra crispiness but regular breadcrumbs will work in a pinch.
  • For a tropical twist, try mixing some finely shredded coconut into the panko.
  • To make gluten-free, substitute the flour and breadcrumbs with gluten-free alternatives.
  • Try dips like chocolate sauce, dulce de leche, whipped cream, or peanut butter.
  • Best enjoyed fresh; reheat leftovers in the air fryer for a few minutes to crisp again.
