Ingredients
Scale
Chicken Marinade
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil (divided)
- 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
Coleslaw
- 2 cups coleslaw mix (cabbage and carrots)
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp honey
- 1/2 tbsp sesame oil (from the divided amount)
Assembly and Garnish
- 12 wonton wrappers
- 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
- oil for frying wontons (about 1 cup, vegetable or canola oil recommended)
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced chicken breasts with teriyaki sauce, 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Mix well to coat the chicken evenly. Cover and let it marinate for 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Cook the Chicken: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is fully cooked and slightly caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the Coleslaw: In a bowl, toss together the coleslaw mix, thinly sliced green onions, rice vinegar, honey, and the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the dressing and flavors.
- Fry the Wonton Wrappers: Pour oil into a deep skillet or pan and heat over medium to medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully fry each wonton wrapper for 20 to 30 seconds on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Assemble the Tacos: Place crispy wonton wrappers on a serving plate. Fill each wrapper with a portion of cooked chicken, then add a generous scoop of coleslaw on top. Drizzle with sweet chili sauce to add a sweet and spicy kick.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped cilantro over each wonton taco for added texture and fresh herbal notes. Serve immediately while the wrappers are crispy for the best eating experience.
Notes
- Use a thermometer to ensure oil is around 350°F (175°C) when frying wonton wrappers for optimal crispness.
- Thinly slicing chicken helps it cook evenly and quickly.
- If preferred, bake wonton wrappers for a lower-fat option, but they won’t be as crispy as fried.
- Adjust sweet chili sauce amount based on your desired spice level.
- Wonton wrappers can be found in the refrigerated section of most grocery stores or Asian markets.
