Ingredients
Scale
For the Cream Cheese Glaze
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- ½ cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ½ cup whole milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Waffles
- 2 cups Bisquick mix
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup whole milk
- 30 drops red gel food coloring
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Make the Cream Cheese Glaze: Beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until the mixture is soft and smooth. Add the powdered sugar and continue beating until the glaze is light and fluffy, making sure to scrape down the sides to remove any lumps.
- Add Milk and Vanilla to Glaze: Mix in the whole milk and vanilla extract with the cream cheese mixture. Set the glaze aside for serving.
- Preheat Waffle Iron: Turn on your waffle iron and allow it to fully heat up according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Mix Dry Ingredients for Waffles: In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick mix, brown sugar, and cocoa powder until well combined.
- Prepare Waffle Batter: Add the buttermilk, whole milk, red gel food coloring, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Whisk everything together until the batter is smooth and uniform in color.
- Cook Waffles: Pour approximately ¾ cup of the red velvet batter onto the hot waffle iron. Close and cook for 4 to 5 minutes or until waffles are soft inside, slightly crispy outside, and release easily from the iron.
- Serve: Drizzle the warm waffles with the cream cheese glaze. Serve immediately while hot for the best taste and texture.
- Repeat: Continue cooking the remaining batter in the waffle iron and serve each batch with the cream cheese glaze as they come out.
Notes
- Cooking times may vary depending on your waffle iron model; refer to your iron’s guide for exact timing.
- If you don’t have red gel food coloring, regular liquid food coloring can be used but may affect the batter’s consistency slightly.
- The cream cheese glaze can be refrigerated and warmed slightly before serving if prepared in advance.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or espresso powder to the batter.
- Use fresh buttermilk for the best texture and tang in your waffles.
