Description
These Salisbury Steak Meatballs are a comforting slow cooker dish combining frozen beef meatballs with a rich beefy mushroom gravy, onions, and savory flavors that perfectly mimic classic Salisbury steak. Ideal for a hearty weeknight meal served over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
Ingredients
Scale
Meatballs and Vegetables
- 1 (3 lb) bag frozen beef meatballs
- 1 large yellow onion, peeled and thinly sliced
Sauce
- 2 (10.75 oz) cans condensed beefy mushroom soup
- 1 packet onion mushroom soup mix
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1/4 cup A1 steak sauce
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
Instructions
- Combine Meatballs and Onions: Add the frozen meatballs and the sliced yellow onion into the bowl of a slow cooker. Stir gently to mix the ingredients evenly.
- Prepare Sauce: In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the condensed beefy mushroom soup, onion mushroom soup mix, beef broth, and A1 steak sauce until smooth and well combined. Pour this mixture evenly over the meatballs and onions in the slow cooker. Stir gently to coat everything with the sauce.
- Slow Cook: Cover the slow cooker with the lid and set it to cook on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, allowing the flavors to meld and the meatballs to heat through.
- Thicken Gravy: About 30 minutes before serving, remove 1/4 cup of the cooking liquid from the slow cooker and pour it into a small bowl. Whisk the cornstarch into this liquid until smooth to create a slurry. Stir this slurry back into the slow cooker mixture. Replace the lid and continue cooking for an additional 30 minutes or until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
- Serve: Serve the Salisbury steak meatballs hot, ideally over a bed of creamy mashed potatoes or cooked egg noodles for a classic presentation. Enjoy!
Notes
- For the best Salisbury steak flavor, it is recommended to use beef meatballs rather than chicken or turkey varieties.
- Do not substitute other cream soups or broths; the beefy mushroom soup and beef broth produce the authentic flavor required.
- If you wish to add more vegetables, adding pre-sliced mushrooms at the start of cooking complements the recipe well.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheated in the microwave.
