Description
Delightfully festive Sugar Cookie Truffles made with cake mix, butter, and white chocolate. These bite-sized treats are coated with creamy white chocolate and sprinkled with Christmas sprinkles, perfect for holiday gatherings or gifting.
Ingredients
Scale
Truffle Base
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
- 2 cups white cake mix
- 1/4 cup cane sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles
Coating
- 10 oz white chocolate wafers (or chopped white chocolate)
- 2 tablespoons Christmas sprinkles
Instructions
- Heat Treat Cake Mix: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spread the cake mix evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 5 to 7 minutes until the cake mix reaches 160°F, then remove and allow to cool completely without burning.
- Prepare the Truffle Dough: Cover a large cookie sheet with waxed paper. In a large bowl, add softened butter cut into pieces, cake mix, and sugar; stir to combine. Blend with a fork until smooth, then add vanilla extract and knead with your hands to incorporate all ingredients uniformly.
- Add Sprinkles and Shape Balls: Mix in 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles. Using a cookie scoop, measure a tablespoon of batter and roll it into a ball with your palms. Place the balls on the prepared cookie sheet.
- Chill the Cake Balls: Freeze the truffle balls for 10 minutes before coating.
- Melt White Chocolate: Place white chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir well. If not fully melted, continue microwaving in 20-30 second intervals, stirring after each until smooth.
- Coat Truffles and Add Sprinkles: Dip each cake ball into melted white chocolate using a fork, then return it to the baking sheet. Immediately sprinkle with 2 tablespoons Christmas sprinkles.
- Final Chill and Storage: Refrigerate coated truffles for 20 to 30 minutes until the chocolate hardens. Store finished truffles in the fridge for up to 7 to 10 days.
Notes
- Ensure cake mix reaches 160°F for safe consumption since it is not baked into a cake.
- Use softened butter for easier mixing and smoother truffle dough texture.
- White chocolate can be substituted with white chocolate chips or other coating chocolates if preferred.
- Adjust sprinkle amount based on the desired festive look.
- Keep truffles refrigerated to maintain freshness and prevent melting.
